Human Inheritance

So, Champions, we explored Human Inheritance today. Who we are is in our genes. Yes, our DNA. We ge half from our mother and half from our father. Whether we can roll our tongue or have attached earlobes depends on whether the trait is dominant or recessive. Remember, some traits are more popular than others.

The Sun-earth-moon

Hello Champions. So, we are heading into space in our next unit. We will be looking at our planet and its relationship with the moon and sun. We know what causes night and day, but what causes the seasons? Most of you guessed correct when you said it is the tilt of the earth on its axis. Seasons are different depending on where you live. Recently, we have had some pretty strange weather in the southern portion of the U.S. .

We are heading into spring here in New Hampshire, but in South America, they are heading into their fall.

Just a quick reminder: We are going to the Jordan's Imax theater on March 24th to see Desolation Moon 3-D and Spacestation 3-D. The cost for each student is $10.00.

Sound and the Ear.

Hello Champions. I hope you got a chance to check out the brainpop on the ear. Here is another website for you to look at: http://school-for-champions.com/science/sound.htm

Great information on sound. Also, we are having a quiz on friday on chapter 2, Sound. If you want to take a practice quiz, there is a self-assessment at PHSchool.com key in Web Code: cga-5020. So, one of the questions we had today in our book was: Explain when a whisper would be louder than a shout. The answer is: Loudness of a sound depends on both intensity and distance. A whisper has a low intensity, but if the distance is small enough it may be louder than a more intense sound that is further away. Here is a diagram of the ear from today.
