Energy

Hello Champions. Great job on the "Jigsaws" today. I am enclosing some websites that are great for Energy. http://think-energy.co.uk. is one that has an interactive game you can play to learn the different forms of energy. Remember the forms are how energy is used. The sources are where we get the energy from. http://www.scilinks.org/ webcode: scn-1351. has information on the sources.

Energy Monday

It's Energy Monday! So, I put a diagram of energy sources for you all to look at. What is the primary resourse of all energy? If you said the sun, you are correct!
Many of you have been out sick. I hope everyone is feeling better. I will be afterschool next week. Please see me if you need to make up a lab or a quiz. The retake for the Motion quiz will be next monday at lunch. Remember, you need to have your quiz signed by a parent in order to retake any quiz.

Newton's Laws of Motion

So, we are coming to the end of our unit on Newton's Laws. The last law is the Newton's third law. I will be demonstrating this in class using my trusty "skateboard". Yes, I can skateboard. For every action, there is an equal and opposing reaction. Think about how this law applies to things in our daily lives.

Student- Led- Conferences

Happy Friday Champions. Well, we got a chance to do some pretty cool labs on Newton's Laws this week. Which was your favorite? Today, we will be filling out our template for Student-Led conferences. Think of something that we did this past quarter that you were proud of. Remember, that you will be discussing with your parents/guardians two pieces of work. You get to pick one!
Today in class we will be looking at skateboarding and how it applies to Newton's Laws. Check out www.scilink.org keyword: forces. The code for Force is GSP003. There are some great interactive things to do that go along with what we are doing in class. On tuesday, we will be heading to the computer lab to use another gizmo from www.explorelearning.com. Make sure you have your password!

Gadgets and Gizmo's

Hello Champions. Well, all the home labs are in! They are great. I hope you enjoyed doing the labs. I guess "Bounty" is the quicker picker upper. Crumpled paper can sure fall fast. Which brings me to one of the labs we will be doing next. We are going to be doing a parachute lab. We will need materials to make our parachutes out of. Be thinking of what material will make the best parachute. Also, if you get a chance, check out www.explorelearning.com. This is the website with the interactive lab similations. We looked at it on friday in class. Hopefully, we will have a chance to go to the computer lab and try some out. This week we will be starting "Forces and Motion". It is all about Newton's laws and why things move. We will definitely be doing the "Domino Rally Lab". Have a great week champions.

Classification.

Hello Champions. So, I had breakfast at the Zoo on Saturday. As you can see, the zoo has classified their animals by habitats. Classification is an important process for all scientist to do. I have a lot of great pictures of "Kira". She is a 5 year old Ape. I saw "Joe" as well. He was in rare form. He kept charging us and showing off. What a "ham".

Home Lab

Hello Champions. Well, the NECAPS are a thing of the past. You all did really great. I know everyone did their best. So, getting back to the "Home Lab". The Final Report is due on Friday, October 23rd. In the Final Report you should include the following:
1. Question: Which problem are you going to test? What is your question? For example, which paper towel absorbs the most water?
2. Research: This is your background information. Commericials, parent polls, internet info, or general info you have about your experiment.
3. Your Hypothesis: If I put the "bounty" paper towel in 50ml of water, it will absorb more water than "Viva" and "Hannaford" paper towels.
4. Procedure: These are the steps you take to do your experiment.
1. Gather materials.
2. Pour 50ml of water into a glass.
3. place paper towel in glass so that it is completely submerged in water.
5. This is your data table
6. Conclusion: What did your data tell you? What did you learn from doing this experiment. It should be one paragraph.

Oscar De La Renta

Hi Champions. I thought I would post some pictures of Oscar De La Renta. He was very sick, but is making a full recovery. He is still pretty battered from his stay with Oscar De La Hoya.

Home Lab

Well Champions, we are half way through our home lab. Tomorrow, you will turn in your "hypothesis". It is just your educated guess as to what you think will happen. I will be after school on thursday for extra help. We have a quiz tomorrow. Make sure you know the steps you take for doing the home lab.

Methods of Science

Here is a picture from the"Penny Drop Lab". This is a great example of cohesion. We examined what the effect of dish soap had on the water forming this dome. Pretty interesting. We will revisit this lab tomorrow and gather our data from the other classes. So, do you think the dish soap made a difference in the amount of drops of water you could fit on the Penny?
New week we will be starting our NECAP testing. Students need to get a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast. We will have testing on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Testing will start at 8:00 am and go to 9:30 am. We will then have a regular schedule with shorten classes.

Methods of Science

Hello Champions. So, we got a chance to measure temperature using a Celsius thermometer today. We will finish the worksheets and the activity on Wednesday. A couple of important things to remember: If you are absent, you must make up the work. I am after school on thursday. Please give me at least 24 hours notice. Also, if you need to retake a quiz, you must have the quiz signed by a parent. I will always take the higher grade. It is a "win" situation for you to retake and get a better grade. Please keep your folder organized. Part of your grade is organization. I did collect some of the papers on monday to put in your portfolio folder. Again, this is part of your grade. It is a "win" situation for you. Thursday we will be starting "The Methods of Science". I have enclosed a link with the title of this post. It has some further info on "The Methods"
